Nurse Practitioners (NP’s) are highly trained registered nurses with advanced education and national certification specializing in dermatology. This expertise in dermatology is obtained through continuing education courses offered by the Dermatology Nurses’ Association as well as physician-supervised specialty training. NP’s in dermatology are able to diagnose and treat a variety of skin care concerns.

They are capable of the following:

• Skin examinations
• Ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests
  
• Writing prescriptions
  
• Performing minor surgical procedures including biopsies, excisions and mole removal
  
• Diagnose and treat skin cancer
  
• Educate and counsel patients on skin care and treatments
  
• Perform cosmetic procedures including lasers, sclerotherapy, injectables, and peels
